A polished wooden gondola prow, richly lacquered in deep black with intricate gold leaf scrollwork, rises from still Venetian canal water. The gleaming metal ferro at the front catches the late afternoon sun, reflecting warm highlights onto the rippling green-blue surface. In the background, softly out of focus, elegant Renaissance facades with peeling pastel plaster and arched windows line the narrow canal. Photographic realism, shot at eye level from the bow, with a shallow depth of field that keeps the prow in crisp detail while the city recedes into a soft bokeh. The mood is cultured and contemplative, evoking quiet exploration and refined cultural discovery.

Private cultural tours in Venice for curious minds

Bespoke cultural tours

Who am I? By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am.

I began with medieval philosophy — with Augustine, Aquinas, and the great questions of faith, reason, and power. Then came economics, and Oxford.
But Venice has always drawn me back — as a place to think in, to inhabit, to share with those curious enough to look beneath the surface.
My tours are journeys where medieval theology meets Renaissance art, where the logic of money illuminates the logic of power, and where the occasional scandal reminds us that Venice has always been deeply human.
Did you know that Venice once felt inferior to Byzantium — until it sacked it? That it helped make coffee a European habit, through its botanical garden in Padua? That even the word “ciao” tells a story of hierarchy and service?
Venice may be small. But few places have shaped the world so profoundly.

Curious to discover it differently?

Cultural itineraries

Venice revealed

Discover the forces behind Venice’s power and fascination.

From the Byzantine gold of St Mark’s Basilica to the halls of power in the Doge’s Palace, from the masterpieces of the Venetian Renaissance at the Gallerie dell’Accademia to the complex interplay of money and authority at Rialto — these are the essential keys to understanding the city.

Hidden Venice

Beyond its iconic landmarks, Venice preserves a more intimate and profound history.

From the sestiere of Castello to the great churches of the mendicant orders, and the settings of Shakespeare’s plays, these tours invite you to discover a quieter, more layered city.

Beyond the Lagoon

Discover the jewels at the gates of Venice.

From Padua — a leading centre of fourteenth-century painting and of early modern science — to the eighteenth-century Villa Pisani, and further back to the origins of Venice at the archaeological site of Altinum, this section explores the wider landscape that shaped the city’s identity.

A quiet, misty morning view across the Venetian lagoon, with the silhouette of a historic church and campanile emerging in soft layers of pale blue and gray. In the foreground, a weathered stone balustrade with smooth, rounded columns runs horizontally, its surface damp and slightly reflective from recent fog. The water lies calm and glassy, subtly mirroring the distant architecture. Gentle, diffused light from the overcast sky creates a serene, almost ethereal mood. Photographic realism, wide-angle shot with the horizon placed on the upper third, emphasizing space and depth, suggesting thoughtful, unhurried cultural exploration away from the crowds.
